I have heard this before

don’t quote me back and forth
to find a way
to make it unclear

I don’t mind who makes me feel
I still smell her on you

better than you
just as bored as me
I think she wants a better way

I’m like you
your dirty wings
I promise you
it couldn’t work

it makes me smile

I’m so happy
it’s okay
I don’t care
I can’t complain
I love myself, I swear
I have been true

so grateful
so ugly
I think I should get
I want some help

in a daze, I don’t have a mind
our pretty songs
try to love
spring is here again
don’t have any feelings
it’s less dangerous

smile on

I want you taking turns in my head
get together
he’s the one
get away
here we are
rather be dead right now

“it amazes me, but I’m not sure I’m living,”
she said
when I learned to cry
in a passionate kiss
the choice is
the will of instinct

I don’t have
I want some
don’t mean

I’ll go out of my way

Following a Month of Poetry lead from yesterday, I embarked on a “found poem” or cut-up. The above words and phrases were taken from the lyrics to Nirvana’s Nevermind. From this generous source, I pulled out about 70 ‘interesting’ phrases which I then shuffled and so on, until this. In the end, as this piece emerged, I cut 124 of the original 312 words (keeping and cutting only whole phrases).

I like this a lot. Who says there is not poetry all around us?
